Reading: I John 4:1-4
Verse: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world,” --I Peter 5:8-9

Do Ghosts Exist? That depends on what do you mean when you use the word “Ghost? If, by ghosts, you mean “spirits of people who have died and have come back from the grave or who have somehow become stuck between this world and the next,” the answer is “NO.” In fact, it might interest you to know that the word “Ghost” appears in the Bible 108 times, and in every instance it is used in reference to the Holy Spirit, or in reference to our spirit. For example, “Abraham gave up the ghost,” (Gen. 25:8). In every case, the phrase “gave up the ghost” refers to the spirit of life being breathed out of a man.

No where in the Bible does the word “ghost” have anything to do with disembodied souls and nowhere does the Scripture teach the idea that the spirits of deceased human beings can remain on earth and “haunt” the living. In fact Job 7:9-10 makes this perfectly clear. “He that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.”

I believe Satan wants to deceive us into believing that ghosts are the spirits of people who have died, because he wants people to believe that some have overcome the chains of death and returned to the earth. However, that is the opposite of what the Bible says happens when we die. Hebrews 9:27 declares, “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” The result of this judgment is heaven for the believer (II Cor. 5:8) and hell for the unbeliever (Luke 16:22-24). There is no in-between. The Bible gives no indication and no possibility of humans remaining on earth in spirit form as a “ghost.” There is no such thing as ghosts mentioned in the Bible.
